Achievements

During 2010, the Public Authority for Industry engaged in implementing its own development programs in accordance with the framework of the state's development plan, foremost of which are new construction projects, through which no less than 2,500 industrial plots will be provided, with an area ranging from (1000 m2 to 10,000 m2) in infrastructure development projects of Al-Shadya Industrial Area, Al-Naayem Industrial Zone and Sabhan Industrial Zone (block 11) This is in addition to the efforts made this year to summon industrial investors to set up their industrial projects in the following areas (Sabhan area, Amghara Industrial area, and Shuaiba Industrial Area), plus the settlement of (6) Vital and environmentally friendly projects in Shuaiba Industrial Area (Eastern Province). This constitutes only a small part of the ambition that PAI seeks to achieve in the coming years. Therefore, the expansion in industrial plots distribution is considered the main catalyst for many industrialists to invest capital in establishing industrial projects, which enables the industrial sector to play the role assigned to it.

- The Public Authority for Industry is keen to enhance the productive capacity of industrial facilities by benefiting from the experiences of regional and international institutions in the field of industrial development, in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the economic development plan in raising the contribution of the industrial sector to the country's gross domestic production.

- Public Authority for Industry also contracted with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and in the process of contracting with the World Trade Center (ITC) to prepare a study to provide data and technical information on the nature of export markets to help develop national products in quantity and quality and enhance their competitiveness.

- Developing Information Technology Systems: Whereby the Public Authority for Industry has introduced information technology into its activities to simplify industrial investor transactions, create an information base that provides the planning and executive bodies with information and industrial data that helps them perform tasks entrusted to them to advance the manufacturing process and enhance industrial development opportunities. The most important new systems that have been Introduced to develop work and improve performance are:  o Automated Contracts system.  o decision support system.  o Development of industrial procedures system.  o Developing the industrial export system.

- Adopting foundations, standards, and support rules that are necessary for industrial exports which contributes in raising the export capacity of national factories and achieve country’s export strategy in diversifying the sources of national income related to foreign exhibitions programs, commercial delegations, and industrial exports development.

- Public Authority for Industry continued to operate two cooling water pumping stations (B and C) in Shuaiba Industrial Area (Eastern Province) to supply oil and petrochemical companies with sea water for cooling. In fiscal year 2010, companies were provided with a quantity of (1959) million cubic meters.

- Since Public Authority for Industry is interested to preserve the environment, it continued to operate a station for receiving and treating solid industrial waste in Shuaiba Industrial Area (Western Region) on an area of about (560,000 square meters), where in 2010 it received and treated inert waste amounting to 19,830 tons, and hazardous waste amounting to 16,222 ton.

- In the environmental field as well, Public Authority for Industry is making great efforts to protect the environment in all the areas underneath, as the submission of environmental studies is a prerequisite for industrial project establishment. It is also keen to obtain environmental approvals for all endemic industries, moreover Public Authority for Industry is coordinating with the Environment Public Authority About the industries to be settled in the new industrial zones.

- Public Authority for Industry has issued industrial approvals to grant licenses for medium industrial projects for (39) factories with an investment value of 130,802,547 KD to provide (2,366) job opportunities and the areas required to localize these industrial projects are estimated at (319,000 m2).

- Public Authority for Industry issued approvals to grant licenses to add a product, increase production capacity with space, increase space, change activity, increase work shifts for (45) factories with an investment value of 102,192,108 KD to provide job opportunities amounting to (1,898) and localization spaces for these activities are estimated at (75,000 m2).

- In 2010, the number of requests for establishments benefiting from the exemption reached to (483) whose imports of machinery, equipment, spare parts, raw materials and packaging materials reached to (736.8 million Kuwaiti dinars) with an exemption value of (36.9 million Kuwaiti dinars).

- Public Authority for Industry is responsible for managing the free trade zone based on the Cabinet’s decision in this regard, with the aim of revitalizing the economic movement in the country, reviving the movement of capital, and restoring State of Kuwait to its economic primacy in the region by managing operational activities with high efficiency and simplifying procedures to meet investors needs by concluding all contracts with them in accordance with the systems followed in this regard, paying all invoices for the services provided to them in the region, obtaining licenses to practice various activities, as well as issuing the necessary permits for the entry and exit of goods in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, with an emphasis on the supervisory role and inspection to control violations, in addition to Facilitate obtaining the services necessary to operate and perform maintenance operations in the region, in addition to coordinating with other relevant government agencies to facilitate and organize work in the region and activate its laws.

- Public Authority for Industry continued to manage its operational activities with the required efficiency, which resulted in achieving an actual surplus of 13.8 million Kuwaiti dinars for the year 2009/2010.
